Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SUEJECT: Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-13 File 0260/L-835.0 Special Report 83-112/0 -

2 Smoke Detectors Alarmed and Would Not Reset AECM-83/0797 On Ncvember 10, 1983, smoke detectors in zones 1-4 and 1-11 were in alarm and would not reset. Fire watches were established in accordance with Technical Specification 3.3.7.9.

Maintenance personnel cleaned the detectors and performed a functional check. The zones were reset and restored to operability on December 12, 1983.

The cause is attributed to the accumulation of dust particles on the ionization detectors.

This is reported as a Special Report pursuant to Technical Specification 6.9.2 since the fourteen (14) day Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) was exceeded. The event had no effect on the health and safety of the public and did not constitute a threat to plant safety. This is n final report.

Yours truly,
