Honorable Lawton Chiles

! United States Senator New Senate Office Building, Rocm 2106 Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator Chiles:

Yesterday, The Miami Herald carried an account of leaks frcm the Florida Power & Light Cmpany's j Nuclear Turkey Point plant which, if true, in my opinion constitutes grave misconduct and criminal negligence.

Investigation might prove that indeed there was an attmpt to cover up and withhold frm the public knowledge i as to the potential risks to the public. There is no established safe exposure to radiation. It is a medi-

cally established fact that human cells store up each'

. . insult frm carcinogenic materials and frm ionizing

! radiation.

i l It is my further opinion that nothing less than the i cmbined authority of the State of Florida arri the Faleral Goverrmant in this field is called for to correct

, this condition and to see to it, by installing a better systs of monitoring, that nothing like this happens again.

I look forward to hearing frca you as to the steps you plan to take in relation to this grave matter. ,
