l CitANGE NOTICE FOR T}lt INSTALLATION OF NEW PRESSURIZER SAFETY VALVES AND WATER SEALS gescription of Change The Pressurizer Sulety Valves PSV 372 and PSV 371 are to be flanged and re-installed with watet seals. Further, at the first opportunity the valves will be rep 4 aced with the new safety valves a drawing of which is shown in Figure 1.

Some of the valve operating parameters are given in Table 1, and a list of valve material specifications in Table 2.

---Purpose of Change The present safety valves have leaked frequently resulting in severe errosion of the seating surfaces and considerabic delays during. plant startups. Te eliminatt these delays water seals and new valves will be installed. The water seal will provide a trap to keep the steam and gas which collect in the pressurizer away from the valves and thus allow the valves to be kept cooler. Figure 2 is a schemati of tne Pressurizer Relief System showing the water seals.

Safety Considerations

^!!uta2SS_21. leis Eri t r_e f _PIleaIZ_S ys teg The design of the piping system from the pressurizer to the Pressure Relief Tank is in accordance with the USAS B31.1 Code for Pressure Piping. In addition the I.

l safety---

valves satisfy the requirements of Article 9 of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. ,. ,' ( d,$, lq ,, , ~1 n,4. u w l

The integrity.of the Primary System after the installation of the water seals and flonges will be assured by conforming to the folicering code requirements:

1. Welders and weld procedures will be qualified in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section IX.

2. Root and final pass of all welds shall be liquid penetrant inspected and all butt welds shall be 100% radiographically inspected. The procedure and acceptance standards shall be in accordance with ASME Par. N-627 m and N-624 r J of Section 111 Nuc1 car Vessels for liquid penetrant and radiographic inspection respectively.

Conf armance to the above requirements will be assured by the Nuclear Power Services Department of Westinghouse.

arther, the Primary System will be tested at a p s y of 2,40 h sig, while ,

ne pressure reitef valves are gagged. The prettsbrs test is not a code require-ment but is being conducted to provide an added degree of assurance of system integrity.

No additions or modifications to the pressure relief valve piping will be in-stituted without complete assurance of adequacy of design.
