On-March 8, reactor power.was reduced to 90% to accommodate Main Turbine Control: Valve testing._ On_ March 14, reactor _ power was reduced-to 79%'due to reachingLan administrative limit on reactor water _ chemistry for feedwater soluble copper contenty of .30 ppb.- Return to - 100% ' power commenced' March'.221after feedwater. copper stabilized at .24 ppb, achieving.-100% power _on MarchL23. On March-28,ireactor~ power was reduced briefly _ to 90% _ to accommodate a control rod ' pattern adjustment. Operational events that occurred daring the month of March 1 = included: i On March 31 an.I & C Techni'cian inadvertentlyfswitched the '1A' Main Steam Line Radiation Monitor.out of operate-mode, while performing the '1E' -IRM . calibration test, l instead of the '1E' IRM. ; A half scram signal =,!along with 1 a NSSSS isolation signal, was generated. - The '1A'~ Main Steam Line Radiation Monitor was immediately returned to , operate and the half scram and isolation _ signals were. R reset. A four hour notification was made-pursuant to _j 10CFR50.72 (b, (2) (ii) ~.

l the Main Turbine Generator'was manually tripped due to an: oil' ! leak.at a welded joint on the Electro' Hydraulic Control Oil
. System Fluid- Actuating Srpply_ .line = for the L #2 Main. Turbine b Control Valve. Manual'EHC isolation-valves were closed to' !
isolate the problem area and: maintain Main Turbine bypass i valve capability. . _ on March 27, J the reactor. was - manually . scrammed - and placed~ in cold shutdown: when1 reactor- water - I che"stry conductivity indicator increased significantly,- i sugpsting a condenser tube leak.- A severed condenser' tube and' ; several severely steam eroded . tubes were. found1 to be = the

problem. Limerick Unit 2 ended thel month in cold shutdown;in - 4 a short maintenance outage. 1 1 Operational events that occurred 1during the : month of March ' included: On March 8, HPCI was declared inoperable after a broken air line was discovered on the HPCI steam Eline- drain - valve. This failure caused the valve _to ~ reposition, - preventing-steam line drain pot drainage.: The broken air 1;[ line'was repaired and HPCI was later. declared operable. O A four hour NRC notification was made due to an unplanned. d outage of a' single train safety system.'. j
,1 On March 9, the '2B' shunt . trip- breaker on the '2B' l RPS/UPS power supply- _ tripped on underfrequency.
This caused c loss of the '2B' RPS/UPS power supply. The loss of power initiated various NSSSS isolations and: : ESF g actuations. Following the resetof the shunt _ trip i breaker, all isolations were reset. The suspected'cause of the event was inadvertent jarring cf the inverter l

3905060710 On March 12, while: performing a calibration / functional test on- Post Accident Monitor (PAM)' recorder, ~ a' spurious -
'B' Channel Reactor ; low- level signal f occurred. The signal _was generated when the pressure. transmitter for the ' PAM was being valved back into ' service. 1The isolation signal caused.the Suppression; Pool Hydrogen-Oxygen ' Arialyzer . and containment leak detectors to j_ .
isolate. HPCI initiated,: but did not- inject due to the. d extremely short duration of the ~ initiating. signal. .HPCI-
~
1 was secured and tho.NSSS isolations were reset. :A.four hour NRC notification was' made due to an ' inadvertent ESF - actuation.. - On March 13, the 2A' Reactor Feed Pump: (RFP) -tripped on j low suction < pressure'due to a' failed power supply to~the. U
'2A' -
RPF , minimum flow recirculation . valve controller. The failure caused the minimum flow valve to open' fully, _ q allowing-the '?A' RFP to. runout. .The;'2A' RFP trip was i reset and the reactor feed pump was-returned _to service. The power supply _ was repaired' and the-minimum flow valve-was successfully stroked and returned to service.- on March 24,. personnel observed that thei #2 Main Turbine 1 Control. valve EHC system was leaking EHC; fluid at'a rate i of approximately_2 gallons per. hour.- It..was determined that the Main Turbine 'would ' haveito._ be expeditiously- 1 removed. from service ~ due to -- the Edegrading E EHC piping ' leak. Steps wereoimmediately'taken:to-reduce reactor' ! power, and later ' to 4 manually trip E the Main ? Turbine'.- Manual EHC isolation valves were closed to isolate the ; problem - area and L to maintain .- bypass . valve capability. A clamp mechanism was fabricated-and'a leak repair was performed to'the EHC. piping: joint. . 4 On March 27, significant' increases.:in conductivity were observed. The Unit 2 reactor was manually shutdown for ' a short maintenance outage.for condenser:tubeytesting. j A severed condenser tube, along with several eroded tubes = .! were found'and plugged by Maintenance during the waterbox inspe.:tions. Following'all repairs andl installation of a baffle plate, the condenser waterboxes.were refilled-and returned to service. On March 30, a small' fire in the.'2B' RPS/UPS invertor caused a loss of the '2B' RPS power supply _ bus. The loss . of-power caused a< loss of RHR shutdown cooling, along> -l with several other NSSSS isolation signals. The fire was ; extinguished in 3 minutes. lRHR- shutdown cooling; was :) restored within 17 ' minutes. The' '2B' RPS bus :was- : resme? w V *:? the invertor bypassed.
