4.0 PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS 5.1 A supply of batteries will be available for the survey meters. The

. battery in the meters should be changed-every 24hours when in use to ensure conti~nued operation of the instrument without loss of function.

  • 4i26/80 5.1.4 To preve*nt becoming confused, meters should be labeled in any convenient manner after installation.

5.2 Reporting 5.2.1 Obtain time since initiation of accident from Health Physicist or Control Room.

5.2.2 Check battery function before-each use of instruments.

5.2.3 Determine background rates from relief valve detector at a time when no steam release is occurring.

5.2.4 Obtain reading from stack detector and subtract background rci.te.

NOTE! An unexpectedly high.or off~~cale reading may indicate high activity in the PenetrationRoom filter box on the 639' level.

Subject to the precautions o'.: Section 4.2 determine the back-ground contribution from act.tvity in the box. using a high-.

range> extended re~ch survey meter (Teletector or equivalent}.

Determine release rates by interpolation from Dose Rate vs. Release Rate curves*** (Figure 1). ....

Activity release rates in steam releases from relief valves are also determined in the above manner. Results are interpolated from Figure 2.

Background may he determined follo~*ling the. release.

  • Release rates fur post-accident times greater than six days are determined
  • from Figure 3.

Record results on Data Sheet.

Readings should be repeated approximately every fifteen. (15) minutes until.

the Health Physicist request"lqnger intervals or*the Site Emergency Director determines thay are no longer required.
