Proc No EM-09-13 Attachment 4 Revision 1 Page 1 of 1 RELIEF REQUEST BASIS NUMBER 1 SYSTEM: Primary Coolant System (PCS)

SUBJECT:

Use of PI-0104 in lieu of digital pressure instrument meeting requirements of Code Case N-437.

CLASS: 1 -

FUNCTION:

PI-0104 is used to monitor test pressure during the Primary Coolant System hydrostatic test.

  • TEST REQUIREMENT:

Nuclear Code Case N-437 requires for digital pressure measuring instruments that "the intended maximum test pressure does not

  • exceed 70% of the calibrated range of the_ instrument. Accuracy shall be within 0.5% of calibrated range."

BASIS FOR RELIEF:

Specification and installation of a test pressure instrument of proper range in order to meet Code requirements would not obtain information more useful than presently available using Installed Plant Instruments. PI-0104 has a full scale range of Oto 3000 psia. PCS hydrostatic test pressure is 2101 psia with a maximum allowable pressure of 2125 allowed for control purposes.

2125 psia is equivalent to 71% of the maximum PI-0104 range. This exceeds the 70% limit allowed by Nuclear Code Case N-437.

However. a difference of 1% will not make a significant difference in the. quality of test pressure data..

  • ALTERNATIVE:

Palisades will perform PCS hydrostatic testing using PI-0104 as the test pressure instrument. Accuracy requirements for this gage shall meet the 0.5% requirement of Nuclear Code Case N-437.

However. the maximum expected PCS hydrostatic test pressure

. (2125 psia) will be~71% of the maximum gauge range C0-3000 psi~).
