environmental sampling, etc.. The van is located in the plant: parking. lot nea~ the Training Center.

Hfgh Volume Air Sampler - battery operated high volume air sam:pler,-Radeco model H-809C or equivalent, AC operated sampler (to be operated via portable generator); or equivalent.

. Two-inch.. particurate.. filter and cartridge holder..

Airborne iodine cartridge (silver zeolite, silver gel, etc.).

~.

Rate.":leter wi:th Eber.line 210 pancake probe or equivalent,.

PRECAUTIONS. AND Lil!ITATIONS Sampling locations and. frequencies will be determined by the Site.Emergency**

Direc.t.or depending on environmental conditions and population distriqud.ons.

Suggested locations are. indicated on Figµre l~.

s*ampling *may take place* in: highly contaminated areas.:..

Anti-c~ntamin~tion

  • clothing and respirators may* be needed under these conditions.

Place particulate pre-filter ~n place to prevent buildup of radioactive particulates on cartridge.

Screw on retaining r~ng and attach sample head

.to air sampler.

. Turn on sampler and adjust air flow to 1. 0-2. 0 cfm.

Note initial air flow reading and time.when sample collection started.

A ten (10) minute sample should be taken.

At the end of 10-minute sample period, note airflow reading and time and turn off sampler.

Remove cartridge frc.m sample head and place cartridge in polyethylene ba~.

Location and include with cartridge.

Analysis Take carfridge to* low background ar.ea or use lead bricks to shield pr9b~ if background radiation levels exceed 300 c?m

  • Place:- probe: in contact with side away from arrow on cartridge.. Note reading on rate meter after meter has-stabilized*.:.

If range of meter is exceeded, repeat air sample (section 5.1) but decrease sample time. to aEpro,..."i.mately one-half. af.. previous. sample time.**

Cal~ul~te ~irborne iodin~ concentrations using the following equation:.

C =. (G. 7E-ll) (Rs-Rb) ts 1/2 (F1+Fz)

Where:

C = Concentration (uCi/cm3)

Rs = sample count rate (cpm)

.,. ~ = background count rate (cpm).

Fi = initial flow rate (cfm)

F2 = final flow rate (cfm) ts = elapsed sample time (minutes)
