5. Identification of Occurrence:

Failure of one tunnel sump pump to start creating a condition contrary to Technical Specification 3.8.1.la.

6. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Mode 1 power operation.

7. Description of Occurrence:  ;,

At 0650, while preparing to perform preplanned maintenance on "3A" Emergency Diesel f.

Generator, the operability test of the sump pumps for the tunnel cont =fning the DC l control feeds to the 230KV switchgear was initiated. One of the two sump pumps failed to start and the 1 hour1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br /> action statement of Technical Specification 3.8.1.1 l was entered. A diesel generator operability test as per Surveillance Requirement of '

Tech. Spec. 4.8.1.1.2 on each diesel generator, and the Breder Verification SP-321  !

vers performed. Units 1 & 2 naintenance personnel restored operability of the sump l pump at 0810. '

8. Designation of Apparent Cause:

The cause of the event was due to the failure of the electric motor of the packaged sump pump.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

There was no safety implication due to this event as both "3A" and "3B" emergency diesel generators were available and verified operable.

10. Correceive Action

None required as a replacement pump was installed.

11. Failure Data:

This is the first occurrence of this event.
