Turbine Sump Oil Separator

1. Date of Incident: 05/27/80
2. Identification of specific effluent limitation exceeded:

Oil and grease shall not exceed 15 mg/l monthly average or 20 mg/l daily maximum.

3. Description of Incident:

The weekly grab sample for oil and grease collected on 05/27/80 measured 84.0 mg/1. It is believed to be a one time noncompliance. The sample was collected on 05/29/80 to verify level below 20 mg/l. The monthly average oil and grease was 20.7.

4. Apparent Cause:

During start-up of the plant, excess oil entered the turbine sump and the filter in the oil separator unit may also have been plugged.

5. If not immediately corrected, the anticipated time the condition is expected to continue:

6. Corrective Action - The following corrective action was taken or will be taken to reduce, eliminate and prevent recurrence:

Maintenance order routed to inspect and replace (if necessary) the oil separator filter arid check remainder of system.
