Licensing By letter dated November 3, 1998, Consumers Energy reported that our design engineering contractor had completed the ampacity evaluation of cables important to safety at the Palisades Plant. We also indicated in the November 3, 1998, letter that upon completion of our review of the_c_on!ractor's work, the evaluatio~_would ~e_ available at the plant f.or future NHC review.
This letter confirms completion of Consumers Energy review of our design engineering contractor's cable ampacity evaluation. The evaluation supports our conclusion that the plant as-built condition is acceptable and conforms with design bases. Consumers considers the cable ampacity evaluation final and the cable ampacity issue closed. Our evaluation is available at the plant for NRC review.
The specific analyses which comprise th_e cable ampacity evaluation are listed below.
EA-ELEC-AMP-032, "Ampacity Evaluation for Open Air Cable Trays with a Percent Fill Greater than 30% of the Useable Cross Sectional Area."
EA-ELEC-AMP-039, "Ampacity Evaluation for Continuously Energized Power Cables in Open Air Conduits."
EA-ELEC-AMP-040, "Ampacity Evaluation for Duct Runs Containing the Continuously Energized Power Cables."
EA-ELEC-AMP-041, "Ampacity Evaluation for Continuously Energized Power Cables Routed Through Fire Stops."
