TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS CHANGE R~QUEST - RPS STEAM GENERATOR LOW WATER LEVEL TRIP SETTING LIMITS Enclosed is a request for change to the Palisades Technical Specifications Table 2.3.1. This change request revises the wording for the Reactor Protective System trip setting limits for the steam generator low water level.

Currently, the Palisades Technical Specifications describe the minimum.trip setting as "Not lower than the centerline of feedwater ring which is located 6 1 -0 11 below normal water level." The revised wording will state the setting is "Not lower than the centerline of feedwater ring." This change eliminates the descriptive wording "which is located 6 '-0" below normal water level."

The change is needed because "normal water level" is not defined in the Technical Specifications, although it is nominally maintained at two feet below the steam generator deck (can-deck). Also, for the replacement steam generators, the centerline of the feedwater ring is located slightly above that in the current .steam generators with respect to normal water level.

It is requested that this change be approved prior to the steam generator low level trip being required operable during fuel load at the end of the upcoming refueling outage. The effective date of the change should be upon issuance of the Amendment.
