3. Occurrence Date: 29-30 December 1977 (determined at plant 17 January 1978)
4. Identification of Occurrence:

Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of Units 1, 2, and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24 hour reporting level of Section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

5. Conditions Prior to Occurrenca:

6. Description of occurrence:

During the period 0900 29 December 1977 to 0900 30 December 1977, 828.02 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens at Crystc1 River Units 1, 2, and 3. Of the 828.02,kg impinged, Unic #3 accounted for 761.63 kg (92

of total). Three finfish species accounted for 94% of the total biomass; scaled sardine 647.17 kg (78%), batfish 74.51 kg (9%), and the Atlantic thread herring 57.38 kg (7%) . The remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish.  ;

7. Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence: )

The following unusual or periodic events were noted prior to, or during, the

1. One oil barge entered the intake canal during the sempling period. )
2. The scaled sardine is a schooling fish. It is possible that an entire school was entrapped in the intake canal and subsequently impinged.

Thess events may have been partially responsible for the impingement observed.
