RECEIPT AND AVAILABILITY OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Carlin:

On January 15, 2013, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the Tennessee Valley Authority's application for renewal of operating licenses for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. We are currently performing an acceptance review for docketing in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 2.101 (10 CFR 2.101). and will notify you of the results of our review. Should the NRC staff determine that the application is acceptable for docketing, a schedule for the review will then be provided to you.

We have enclosed for your information a copy of the notice relating to your application that is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Richard Plasse as the project manager for the safety review, and Mr. Emmanuel Sayoc as the project manager for the environmental review of your license* renewal application. Please forward copies of license renewal correspondence to Mr. Plasse or Mr. Sayoc as appropriate. Mr. Siva Lingam continues to remain responsible for the project management of all issues other than license renewal for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant.

DPR-77 AND DPR-79 FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20~ YEAR PERIOD The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or Commission) has received an application, dated January 7,2013, from Tennessee Valley Authority, filed pursuant to

. . , .,"'..- Section 103 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54 (10 CFR Part 54), to renew the operating licenses for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SON), Units 1 and 2. Renewal of the licenses would authorize the applicant to operate each facility for an additional 20-year period beyond the period specified if} the respective current operating licenses. The current operating license for SON, Unit 1 (DPR-77),

expires on September 17,2020. The current operating license for SON, Unit 2 (DPR-79),

expires on September 15, 2021. Both units are pressurized-water reactors designed by Westinghouse, and are located in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. The acceptability of the tendered application for docketing, and other matters, including an opportunity to request a-hearing, will .

be the subject of subsequent Federal Register notices.

Copies of the application are available to the public at the Commission's public document room (PDR), located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland 20852, or through the internet from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Public Electronic Reading Room under Accession Number ML130240007.
