WHEREAS, the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Ocean, on hehalf of County residents and visitors, has consistently expressed its grave concern about the potential dangers and health risks associated with the construction and operation of nuclear generating stations in Lacey Township by Jersey Central Power & Light Company; and -

WHEREAS, this Soard has actively opposed through litigation the construccion of the second nuclear generating station in Lacey Tcwnship, the construction of a 550 foot salt water cooling tower, as well as rate increase applications filed by Jersey Central Power & Light; and WHEREAS, in the wake of the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1979, this Scard's concern for environmental safe-guards has even intensified; and WHEPJAS, Jersey Central Power & Light has been cited ' for ninety safety violations within a two-year period and fined $26,000.00; and NHEREAS, on Augus t 13-14 1979, some 2300 gallons of radioactive rainwater were discharged into the Oyster ~ Creek without having first been processsed through the station's waste treatment facility; and WHEREAS, the facts that this incident was attributable to human error and went unreported until August 15, 1979 dramati:e the need for trore careful monitoring and reporting of activities at the Cyster Creek facility:

NOW, THEP2 FORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the SOARD OF CHCSEN FREIHCLCERS cf the COUNTY CF OCEAN, STATE OF NEW JERSEY , that it hereby calls upon the Ccngress of the United States to take necessary action to provide funding for 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> a day /7 days a week radiological mcnitoring of the Oyster Creek facili:y by an independent agency charged with the responsibility to' notify appropriate Federal, State, County and Local of ficials of an impending threat er danger of radiation contamination of the atmos; .ere or water supply.
