Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 Revision To NPSH Modifications And Revised Technical Specifications Gentlemen:

Enclosed are three signed originals and thirty-seven copies of a revision to the " Analysis and System Modification for Recirculation Spray and Low Head Safety Injection Pump" report which was originally submitted in November of 1977.

The purpose of this revision to the orginally proposed modification is to eliminate the installation of two eductors which were designed to draw sodium hydroxide from the chemical addition tank for mixing with quench spray water. It has been determined that the eductors are not required.

At the request of members of your staff, we have determined that the addition of the cavitating venturis in the low head safety injection pump discharge lines will not reduce the LHSI flow below the values that were utilized in the Appendix K LOCA analysis. This determination has been verified by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, who performed the Appendix K analysis.

We intend to install the described modifications during the refueling outage of Beaver Valley Unit No. I which is scheduled to commence in early November of this year.

Very truly yours, C. N. Dunn
