SUMMARY

OF APRIL 23, 2014, MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY TO DISCUSS GRID DESIGN CRITERIA (TAC NO. MF3716) On Apri123, 2014, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the design criteria being proposed by SNC for new grid voltage protective relaying at Edwin Hatch Nuclear Plant and Joseph M. Farley Nuclear plant. The meeting notice and agenda, dated April 9, 2014, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML 14099A342.

1. The licensee's presentation can be found at ADAMS Accession No. ML 141 08A005. SNC stated that they have initiated the design process for implementing the changes at both plants and presented the proposed design criteria for the new voltage protective relaying.

SNC described the methodology being used to determine the voltage setpoints and time delays. SNC provided a step by step example of how the voltage setpoint analytical limits will be derived. The NRC Staff found the information provided by SNC to be a useful description of the licensee's plans for this future license amendment.

No regulatory decisions or commitments were made during the meeting. Shawn Williams, Senior Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch 11-1 Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos.: 50-348, 50-364, 50-321, 50-366
