SUMMARY
OF MAY 19, 2009, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH PPL SUSQUEHANNA, LLC
On May 19, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, an Annual Assessment Meeting was conducted at the
Susquehanna Energy Information Center in Be rwick Pennsylvania, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and PPL Susquehanna, LLC (PPL). The NRC requested the
meeting with PPL management to discuss the NRC
=s assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Units 1 and 2 for the calendar year 2008.
The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of Susquehanna
for the period of January 1 through December 31, 2008. The NRC presentation included
information on the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), summary of national performance
assessment results, and the results of NRC
=s performance assessment for Susquehanna. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, PPL presented its perspective regarding the plant
=s performance during 2008 and operational goals for 2009.
Members of the public, representatives of t he Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection, and PPL employees observed the meet ing. At the end of the meeting between the NRC and PPL, public attendees were offered the opportunity to communicate with the NRC
regarding PPL's performance at Susquehanna and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant
operations. Questions from the public were addressed by the NRC.
