3. Occurrence Date: 21-22 December 1977 (determined at plant 17 January 1978)  !

1 j 4. Identification of Occurrence:

Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of Units 1, 2, and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24 hour reporting level of Section 3.1.3 of Environ-mental Technical Specifications. ,

5. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water circulation pumps operational.

Unit #2 - All water circulation pumps non-operational (unit down) . I Unit #3 - All water circulation pumps operational. .]

6. Description of Occurrence:

During the period 0900 21 December 1977 to 0900 22 December 1977 95.24 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units i 1, 2, and 3. Of the 95.24 kg impinged, Unit 3 accounted for 74.04 kg (78% of total). One commercially unimportant species, the batfish, accounted for  !

57.99 kg (61% of total) . Two commercially utilized species, the pink shrimp )

and the blue crab, accounted for 25.31 kg (27% of total) . Impingement of all other commercially utilized species was less than 1 kg during the period in question. The remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish.

7. Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:

The following unusual or periodic event was noted prior to, or during, the occurrence:

One oil barge entered the intake canal during sampling.

This event may have been partially responsible for the impingement cbserved.
