There are two main reasons that Iadvocate for this:1. I am unwilling to accept even one tiny bit of increased pollution to the environment. DiabloCanyon is safely generating pollution free electricity 24/7. If this plant is shutdown, our greenhouse gas emissions will increase due to the gas fired plants that will have to run to supplant thepower that Diablo Canyon currently produces.2. I enjoy the economic vitality that Diablo Canyon provides to my county and my town. Withoutthis station generating electricity, thousands of head-of-household jobs will disappear along withthe extended economic benefit to the county from those jobs. Many new technologies need to become economically viable in order to be able to match ourCalifornia renewables and distributed solar with pollution free power. This is going to require newgeneration of nuclear (such as small modular reactors) and better batteries for solar and windgeneration. We need a carbon-free grid that works with distributed solar generation too. However, innovations in technology that would be able to make this a reality are decades away.
