[External_Sender] Comment on the Safety of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power plant Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the safety of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant during this scoping period. With the possibility of DCNPP relicensing, I would like to offer my consideration.
My husband and I attended the in-person meeting at The Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo on February 8th.
The majority of testimony was from recent or past employees of DCNPP, as well as union representatives, civic leaders, and the local Native American tribe - all who enjoy monetary benefits of keeping the plant open thus they promoted the relicensing.
I am a local community member and my concern about DCNPP began long ago when I lived in the Sierra Nevada mountains. My understanding of the incredibly long life of radio active waste, and the lack of containers available that are capable to store it for the life of the waste, as well as the fact that DCNPP sits on the Hosgri earthquake fault was what I initially found alarming at that time. Since then, many new faults have been discovered, some of vertical orientation that further exacerbate the significant danger of DNCPP remaining open.
I hope the welfare and safety of the large communities surrounding the plant, as well as the pristine natural beauty of our coastline surrounding the site will significantly impact the decision to not allow PGE to relicense.
We cannot gamble on whether a nuclear accident develops. The humane thing to do is to shut DCNPP down.
By nature of definition, no one ever plans an accident" - accidents just happen. No one, including all the well wishers who applaud the fact that nuclear power is carbon free, has the power to control earthquakes,
or the longevity of radio active waste.
Shut Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant down now.
Sincerely,
Lucy Hunt-Pierson Cayucos Resident
