[External_Sender] Diablo Canyon comments.

Ms. Conway, Mr. Harris:

Hello, my name is Tony Banks. I have worked in the U.S. commercial nuclear power generation industry for 40+ years. Ive been employed and served at several stations and in corporate support organizations directly, such as Brunswick, Surry, North Anna; visited and supported audits at Turkey Point, Hatch, Farley, Calvert Cliffs; presented at conferences in RP, SGRP; represented the industry on Task Forces for RP, Fukushima, SAMA Analysis, LR/SLR; testified before the NRC; and now work as a consultant.

I am voicing my support for the continued operation of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant.

I have had countless associates in the industry across the country, east coast to west coast, and a few elsewhere in the world, and know that Diablo Canyon has provided safe, reliable, and clean electricity for their communities, supporting the economics of the region, and meets the energy needs of more than 3 million people in the state of California.

As you are aware, nuclear power generates roughly 20% of the electricity in the U.S., and similarly, Diablo Canyon, with their 2200-megawatt output, provides about 17% of Californias zero-carbon electricity, contributing beneficially in many ways to enjoying California. Thats also nearly 10% of the states electricity overall.

The nearly 1300 employees and families also contribute significantly to the local economy and good stewardship of the environment, extending operation of the plant is the right thing to do.

The environmental review should be efficient and timely, and the scoping process will hear and recognize the positive environmental and economic impacts along with the strong safety record of Diablo Canyon.

Around the country and the world, governments are re-recognizing the critical role nuclear plays in reaching reduced carbon-emission goals. Continued operation of Diablo Canyon ensures that residents will receive the affordable and reliable clean energy that nuclear power provides, and extending operations at Diablo Canyon will facilitate well the information decision-makers need for their communities Please consider these comments in your review. Thank you.

Tony Banks, MPH, MBA, CHMM.
