                    . Deer Mr. Bowling:
On September 26,1996, Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) informed the NRC,-
pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Ra9ulations. Section 50.72(b)(iii)(D), that it had
. identified 21 safety-related air operated valves that are controlled by solenoid operated pilot                                              -
valves, which do not receive Class 1E power. NNECO followed up the event notification with                                                  q LER 96-036-00, dated October 25,1996. . By {{letter dated|date=February 12, 1997|text=letter dated February 12,1997}}, the NRC requested                                                  '
i additional information regarding the subject LER, which NNECO iesponded to on April 18,1997.                      '
The NRC staff has completed a preliminary review of the event and has conducted additional onsite review of NNECO's corrective actions. Based on these reviews, the staff has identified -
