ENCLOSURE SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 ADDITIONAL FIRE DAMPERS AUD FIRE DOORS IN CONTROL AI;D AUXILI ARY BUILDIMGS NCR SWP-78-S-2 FINAL REPORT Description of Condition During a design review, it was discovered that compartmentation of the Control Building and the Auxiliary Building did not meet Fire Protection Design Criteria. The fire dampers and fire doors furnished on design drawings were in accordance with Section 3.0 - Recommended Approach for Implementing Supplemental Fire Protection Design Criteria, and Supplemental Fire Protection Recommendations, Revision 1, dated January 18, 1977, but were not fully in accordance with Section 2.0 - Supplemental Fire Protection Design Criteria. This was caused by a difference in interpretation of Sections 2 and 3 between those who implemented the criteria and those who authored it.

Subsection 3.7.4.2 - Compartmentation of Section 3.0 also stated

"... Compartmentation for these elevations is adequate," when, in fact, additional dampers and doors should have been required.

Nine additional fire dampers in HVAC ductwork and eight additional fire doors are required in the Control and Auxiliary Buildings.

Safety Implications In the event of a fire in the Control or Auxiliary Building, safety-related systems could be adversely affected if this condition had remained uncorrected.

Corrective Action In order to comply with the fire protection design criteria, the following fire dampers and fire doors will be installed before the initial fuel loading of the associated unit.

Damper No. Door Fo, 0-31A-257 A19 l-31C-1219 A20 1-31C-1220 A37 1-31C-1217 A38 1-31C-1218 A82 2-31C-1221 A83 2-31C-1222 A127 2-31C-1223 A128 0-30-613 7 9 0 2 2 8 0 3 3r7

A detailed description of these v.odifications was transmitted to NCR-NRR by a letter from J. E. Gilleland to S. A. Varga dated January 19, 1979. This description is in response to NRR Fire Protection question 3 which was transmitted to N. B. Hughes from S. A. Varga by a letter dated September 1, 1978.
