SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF APRIL 14, 2005, CLOSED MEETING WITH WESTINGHOUSE TO DISCUSS INFORMATION RELATED TO APPLICATION OF OPTIMA2 TOPICAL REPORTS (TAC NOS. MC6517 AND MC6518)
On April 14, 2005, a closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), representatives of Westinghouse Electric Company (W), and Exelon Generation Company, LLC, (Exelon) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how topical reports for OPTIMA2 fuel would be used in actual license amendment applications such as that being considered by Exelon for the Quad Cities and Dresden Nuclear Power Stations. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1.
W presented an overview of the W boiling-water reactor methodology, vendor transition, and reload safety analysis process, portions of which were proprietary. A copy of the licensee's presentation is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at accession numbers ML051080452 and ML051170392.
The NRC staff found the discussions to be worthwhile and resulted in useful technical exchanges on highly technical issues. Due to the amount of material remaining to be discussed, it was agreed to hold another meeting on May 5, 2005.
This was a closed meeting and members of the public were not in attendance.
