SUMMARY

OF JANUARY 29, 2020, CLOSED MEETING WITH EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC REGARDING DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NO. ARCB-RAI-3 FOR THE QUAD CITIES NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 AMENDMENT REQUEST TO INCREASE MAIN STEAM ISOLATION VALVE LEAKAGE (EPID L-2019-LLA-0045)

On January 29, 2020, a closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon).

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Exelons planned approach for responding to draft request for additional information (RAI) No. ARCB-RAI-3 for the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2, license amendment request (LAR) to increase allowable main steam isolation valve leakage. The meeting notice and agenda, dated January 17, 2020, are available in Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML20017A323. A list of participants is provided as an enclosure to this summary.

ARCB-RAI-3 requests information on the licensees aerosol settling velocity and model and its accounting for the credit of drywell sprays (ADAMS Accession No. ML20031C833). Exelon staff provided information on its proposed method and quantification of conservatism in the model, with illustrative case studies to support its forthcoming RAI response. The Information presented was proprietary in nature, which included some novel approaches to assess conservatisms with various inputs. The NRC staff asked a number of clarifying questions.

Because of the nature of Exelons planned approach, it stated that it might request additional time to respond to the formal RAI.
