SUMMARY

OF THE AUGUST 11, 2011, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE PERRY NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT 1, END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On August 11, 2011, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Perry Township Community Building in Perry, OH. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company management to discuss the NRC=s assessment of the safety performance of Perry Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1, for the period from January 1 through December 31, 2010. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML111960211 and ML112240823, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the Enclosure.

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC=s Reactor Oversight Program (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRC=s assessment of the performance of Perry Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1, in calendar year 2010, which was documented in the March 4, 2011, end-of-cycle assessment letter, as ML110620306. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, FirstEnergy briefly responded to the NRC=s assessment. The FirstEnergy presentation can be found in ADAMS as ML112280573. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
