Docket No. 50-461 l Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Cmmission Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

Clinton Power Station Construction Schedule Update

Dear Mr. Denton:

he USNBC letter dated May 29, 1981, frun H. R. Denton to W. J. Kelley, requested . Illinois Power Cmpany provide qu trterly updates concerning the Clinton I construction schedule.

As of the end of March, the major project priority continued to be the cmpletion of systen testing and preparation of systans for operation.

Progress on these activities has not achieved the schedule required to load fuel by the end of March 1986.

On March 18, 1986, the Cmpany announced that fuel will be loaded later than expected. It is not possible for the Cmpany to pralict a precise fuel load date because the detenaination of when the Cmpany can begin to load fuel nust be made by the NBC as part of tht r. Agency's ca-going review. We inpact on camercial operation caused by delayed fuel load will be partially offset by the planned accelerati.on of the power ascension test program.

We will continue to subnit quarterly updates of the Clinton Power Station construction schedule.
