l Ceneric Letter 83 28, " Required Actions Based on Ceneric ,

Implications of Salem ATWS Events", issued July 8,1983, addresssed issues related to reactor trip system reliability and general management capability. The Illinois Power Company's (IP) response to th:).s -letter }

was issued June 9,1988, and discussed our program for receiving vendor .

information. The IP letter stated in part: "Whenever new vendor manual ,

material is received -receipt of the material is acknowledged by a  ;

. letter to the vendor. This letter also asks the vendor if there are any F :other materials'IP should have. When material is received other than ,

through an official distribution by the vendor, the vendor is contacted  !

and the same questions asked " Based on past experience, this i acknowledgement has not resulted in additional information being

, transmitted by the vendor. Since no benefit has been demonstrated by M this practice for over six years, IP intends to discontinue sending out  !

acknowledgements upon receipt of vendor manual materials. +

Discontinuation of this acknowledgement will-not adversely impact the IP 1 vendor manual program and will reduce program administration costs. IP '

will continue to send-an annual request for information to those vendors  :

who either are still in business or whose previous acknowledgement has  ;

not been-returned as undeliverable.  ;
