Monthly Summary STPEGS Unit 1 began the reporting period at 100% reactor power.

On 4/2/89 at 2105 reactor power was reduced to approximately 90% when a Main Turbine governor valve was declared inoperable due to unacceptable oscillations.

The one governor valve was closed and reactor power was increased to approximately 94% with three governor valves operable.

The remaining governor valve was declared operable on 4/6/89 at 1420.

On 4/6/89 at 0838 the unit declared a Notification Of Unusual Event ( NOUE ) due to two diesel generators being inoperable. On 4/6/89 at 1950 the last of the two diesel generators was operable and the unit exited the NOUE. Due to unsatisfactory results of the Quadrant Power Tilt Ratio (QPTR), reactor power was required to be maintained below 50%. The limiting condition for operation due to unsatisfactory QPTR was exited on 4/8/89 at 0639.

The unit concluded the reporting period at 100% reactor power.

. . _ _ .PAMLLOE .7 Monthly Summary STPEGS Unit 2 achieved initial electricity on 4/11/89 at 1024 and was secured at 1029 due to a stator bushing high temperature indication. It was determined that the actual bushing temperature was satisfactory and the generator was again synchronized at 1326.

On 4/15/89 at 0518 a Reactor / Turbine trip occurred when the Logic Train "S" reactor trip breaker opened. The components whose failure could have resulted in the trip were replaced.

The unit entered Mode 1 on 4/17/89 at 0619 then began to cool down at 1200 to repair a steam leak on a feedwater isolation valve. Repairs were completed on 4/18/89 and the unit entered Mode 1 on 4/20/89.

On 4/21/89 the unit was cooled down for inspection of one of the low pressure turbines. The inspection was prompted by an unidentified noise detected in the turbine as the unit wau being prepared to synchronize to the distribution grid. Inspection of the Main Turbine found that a jackshaf t bore plug had backed out causing the noise when the turbine was rolled.

The reporting period was concluded with the Main Turbine repairs ongoing.
