Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Proposes $7,500 Fine to The Queens Medical Center The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has proposed a $7,500 fine to The Queens Medical Center for three violations of regulatory requirements at its facility in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The violations were documented in a June 26 inspection report and involve the licensees failure to monitor the occupational exposure of physicians involved in radiology procedures as described in an NRC Oct. 27 letter.

NRC held a regulatory teleconference on Aug. 11 with officials from The Queens Medical Center during which the apparent violations, their significance, their root causes and corrective actions were discussed. Based on the information collected during the inspection and during the conference, the NRC has determined that several violations of NRC requirements occurred.

The licensee has 30 days to dispute the fine or request involvement of a third-party mediator to resolve the issue.
