Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Proposes $7,500 Fine to St. Lukes Regional Medical Center The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing a $7,500 fine to the St. Lukes Regional Medical Center for violations of regulatory requirements at its medical facilities in Boise and Meridian, Idaho.
The violations reflect the licensees failure to monitor occupational exposure of individuals involved in the handling and use of radioactive materials at its medical facilities as described in a September 15 letter to St. Lukes officials.
The apparent violations were identified in a June 26 inspection report. The NRC conducted the inspection in February.
In the letter transmitting the inspection report, the NRC provided the licensee with the opportunity to address the apparent violations by attending a pre-decisional enforcement conference, requesting alternative dispute resolution, or providing a written response before a final enforcement decision was made. St. Lukes officials chose to respond in a July 7 letter.
Based on the information developed during the inspection and the information the licensee provided in its written response, the NRC has determined that three violations of regulatory requirements occurred.
The licensee has 30 days to dispute the fine or request involvement of a third-party mediator to resolve the issue.
