Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Arkansas Nuclear One The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Russell Bywater as the new senior resident inspector at Arkansas Nuclear One in Russellville, Ark.

Bywater joined the NRC in 1990 as a reactor engineer in the NRC Region III office in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and served as a resident inspector at the Prairie Island nuclear plant in Minnesota. He transferred to NRCs Region IV office in Arlington, Texas, in 1997 and has served as an engineering inspector, senior resident inspector at the Arkansas Nuclear One plant in Russellville, Ark., senior reactor analyst, chief of an engineering branch in the Division of Reactor Safety, and resident inspector at the Palo Verde nuclear power plant in Tonopah, Ariz.

In 2008, Bywater left the agency to enter private industry in the area of new reactor licensing and worked as an independent nuclear safety consultant. He has also taught high school engineering and physics classes for five years in Texas before rejoining the agency as a project engineer.

Bywater holds bachelors degrees in physics and mathematics from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb., and a masters degree in nuclear engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He is also a licensed professional engineer.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

Bywater joins resident inspectors Tim DeBey and Nathan Brown. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
