STARTUP AFTER EXTENDED OUTAGE The Cooper Nuclear Station achieved criticality at 6:45 p.m. (CDT) on August 20, 1985. The plant had been shut down since September 10, 1984, to replace reactor recirculation piping. The senior resident inspector monitored the startup.
The licensee has a scheduled 19-day power ascension and testing period before resuming comercial operation.
Because of_the long shutdown period, the Region monitored licensee preparation for the return to operation very closely. This monitoring focused not only en the normal outage and startup activities but also on the programatic aspects of readiness.
The licensee may issue a press release. Region IV will respond to media inquiries.
The state of Nebraska has been informed.
