SUBJECT:

ADDTI'lONAL INFORMATION TO SUPPORT AP600 PASSIVE RESIDUAL llEAT REMOVAL (PRilR) IIEAT EXCilANGER llEAT TRANSFER CORRELATIONS ANALYSES 5

Dear Mr. Quay:

In response to your letter dated May 9,1997, Westinghouse has performed additional analyses to

[ predict the perfonnance of the ROSA PRilR heat exchanger for two tests (AP-80-01 station blackor and AP-CL-041/2 inch cold leg break). The resulting predicted PRilR outlet temperatures and primary system Duid temperatures for various locations along the tube are listed in Enclosure I for the time periods requested for each test.

These results were determined by applying the PR11R heat transfer correlations reported in WCAP-12980, "AP600 Passive Residual lleat Removal lleat Exchanger Test Final Repor," Revision 2, September,1996. Test con 0guration and layout information was obtained from the " Updated Final Design Report for the Project of ROSA Facility Modification," Volume 1, February,1994.

This report submittal closes, from Westinghouse's perspective, open items 25 (RAI 952.94),1617 (DSER 0121.3.31),3226 (DSER 0121.6.1.6-1), and 3395 (RAI 440.567). As a result, the Westinghouse status column will be changed to " Closed" in the Open item Tracking System (OITS)

. for these four open items. The NRC should review this response and inform Westinghouse of the status of these open items to be designated in the "NRC Status" column of the OITS.

Please contact Mr. Eugene J. Piplica at (412) 374 5310 if you have any questions concerning this transmittal.
