SUBJECT:

AP600 DESIGN CHANGE DESCRIPTION REPORT

Dear Mr. Borchardt:

Enclosed with this letter is a report describing eleven changes to the AP600 design as described in the AP600 Standard Safety Analysis Report (SSAR). The enclosed report describes each change, identifies the purpose of the change and discusses the impact on the AP600 safety analyses and probabilistic risk assessment and test programs.

Changes to the Automatic Depressurization System (ADS) and Core Makeup Tank designs were discussed during a meeting between NRC and Westinghouse senior management on December 22, 1993. The impact of the ADS design changes on the ADS test program were discussed with NRC l

staff on January 25,1994. A meeting between Westinghouse and NRC staff is planned for February 22,1994 in Monroeville, PA to discuss the changes in more detail.

The enclosed report is provided as interim documentation of the design changes. The identified impacts on the AP600 SSAR and PRA will be included in future revisions.

I Enclosure 2 contains a non-proprietary copy of the design change description report.
