PLANT NAME: Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2 LICENSING STAGE: 0L(Unit 2)

DOCKET NUMBERS: 50-275/323 RESPONSIBLE BRANCH: LB #3; H. Schierling, LPM; B. Buckley The Radiation Protection Section of the Radiological Assessment Branch has reviewed the status of inputs as requested in the H. L. Thompson to Division Directors memorandum of March 28, 1985. The attached SSER identifies and indicates the acceptability of the Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) submittals related to Item II.B.2 of NUREG-0737 " Plant Shielding." As indicated in our Congel to Knighton memo of March 14, 1985, PG&E has fulfilled all information commitments to RAB and no further infonnation is required.

e 4.15 Plant Shielding (NUREG-0737 Item II.B.2)

In SSER 14 (April 1981) the staff reported on its evaluation of the PG&E Diablo Canyon Unit I radiation shielding review. The staff identified the need for additional information regarding projected post accident dose rates for occupied areas, potentially occupied areas and travel routes. These were to be submitted prior to the issuance of a full power license. Further information was provided by PG&E on June 12, 1981 (Ref. 100) and the Unit I low power license was issued in September 1981.

By letter July 12, 1984 PG&E submitted " Radiation Shielding Review, Rev. 3" which provided further j

information for Diablo Canyon Unit 2 (Ref.101). The report refines and I

expands the information previously submitted for Unit 1.

The staff has l

l reviewed the information and found it acceptable. The staff concludes that this item has been resolved for Unit 1 and Unit 2.
