LICENSE CONDITIONS REGARDING GENERIC LETTER 83-28 FOR DIABLO CANYON 2 The below license condition should be included in the Diablo Canyon Unit 2 license to ensure timely implementation of Generic Letter 83-28, " Required Actions Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events." Note that the license condition reflects the applicant's own commitments, as presented in their January 24, 1985 response to Generic Letter 83-28 The condition should be as follows:

"The Pacific Gas and Electric Company shall submit responses w

to and implement the requirements of Generic letter 83-28 on a schedule which is consistent with that given in their January 24, 1985 letter."

Enclosed is a short discussion regarding the license condition. This can be used as input to the Diablo Canyon 2 SER. Should any additional information be required, Ton Alexion is the Project Manager for this assignment.

Generic Letter 83-28 l

Generic letter 83-28 (Required Actions Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events) was issued by the staff to address intermediate-term actions required of licensees and applicants as a result of the Salem ATWS events.

i The actions address issues in the areas of Post-Trip Review, Equipment Classification and Vendor Interface. Post-Maintenance Testing, and Reactor Trip System Reliability Improvement..

The applicant, by letter dated January P4,1985 provided the submittal and i

implementation schedule for each of the Generic Letter requirements. The staff finds the applicant's conunitmants for submitting'the responses to and 1

implementing the requirements of Generic letter 83-?8 to be acceptable and l

will so condition the applicant's license.
