INFORMATION I
I During the week of October 22-26, 1984 the NRC staff personnel and consultants l
visited the PG&E/Bechtel offices to audit designs of piping and pipe supports at Diablo Canyon Unit No. 2.
Based on this audit, the staff has determined i
that the infonnation contained in the attached " Request for Additional Information" will be required before a satisfactory conclusion can be reached i
regarding the adequacy and qualification of Diablo Canyon Unit 2 piping and i
pipe supports.

Provide the methodology used by W for piping support base plate analysis, including flexibility effects. Thow that this has been reviewed and
- accepted by the DCP, and that it corresponds to that used by PG&E and Bechtel.
2.
Provide the verification of the computer program PIPSAN used by W for analyzing piping supports. Show that this program has been reviewed, verified and approved by the DCP.

Show that the DCP has verified that W has included in the W piping 4
i support design criteria all changes reflected in DCM-M9, Rev.11 l
" Guidelines for Design of Class 1 Supports."

Provide the basis for specifying a tolerance of 10% on modulus of elasticity as stated in PG&E " Procedure for Piping Stress Analysis, Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2," Procedure P-11, Rev. 7, and W document AM-SSA-2577, Vol. 1, Rev. 3, March 1983.

Provide the procedures and design docunents used by Bechtel-Gaithersburg l
for the analysis of piping and piping supports at Diablo Canyon Unit No.
l 2, including the document " Project Instruction Manual for Piping
