Schierling Review Status: Continuing In response to the referenced memo, it should be noted that the equipment qualification review of the second unit of a multi-unit plant is generally conducted on the basis of a review of the differences between the components of the second unit and the components of the first unit already accepted for l

licensing. Accordingly, we are requesting that the applicant provide the following information in order for the Equipment Qualification Branch to conduct a review of Diablo Canyon Unit 2.

1.

For seismic and dynamic qualification and for pumps and valve operability assurance:

a.

Provide a master list of safety related electrical and mechanical equipment with differences between units 1 and 2 identified on that list.

b.

Discuss changes in the seismic loading for equipment qualification due to changes in hazard estimates; design, analysis and construction errors.

For environmental qualification of electric equipment important to safety:

a.

Provice a statement, and its bases, that unit 2 is in compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49. This statement should indicate that, to determine compliance with 10 CFR 50.49, the I

applicant's review included: (a) equipment for all design basis accidents (b) non safety-related equipment whose failure could affectsafety-relatedequipmentand(c) post-accidentmonitoring eg ipment that must meet the requirements of Regulatory Guide

Provide a list that includes all equipment within scope of 10 CFR 50.49 installed or to be installed in unit 2 that is different from equipment qualified for unit 1.

Provide qualification infonnation for all equipment on this list.

c.

For equipment within the scope of 10 CFR 50.49 that is not environmentally qualified, provide justification for interim operation in accordance with the requirements of paragraph (i) of
