l ILLIN0/8 POWER COMPANY IF CUNTON POWER STATION, P.O. BOX 399, CLINTON, ILLINOIS 61727 1

i September 13, 1979 Director Office of Management and Program Analysis Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

20545 Gentlemen In response to a commitment made during the June, 1979, site inspection, we are herewith submitting one (1) copy of the updated. construction network (schedule) for Illinois Power Company's Clinton 1 Project.

The enclosed network indicates the status of construction through August, 1979, and includes projections for completion of remaining work.

The project is 53% complete as of August 31, 1979, with the date for start of fuel loading unchanged from the previous projection of April, 1982.

Note that this submittal includes several revisions to con-struction logic.

These revisions have been made to customize the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's standard construction net-work to better reflect the scope and construction plan of the Clinton 1 Project.

Specific network changes include:

1.

The start of installation of the drywell suppression chamber is now restrained by completion of the reactor building foundation, rather than the drywell pedestal.

2.

The activity for the installation of an off-gas stack (8065-8915) has been deleted.

There will not be a separate off-gas stack; the off-gasses will be vented through the plant ventilation stack.

3.

The activity for the installation of the high pressure core spray turbine steam pipe (8255-8345) has been deleted.

At Clinton, the HPCS pumps will be motor driven rather than turbine driven.

8504120347 840606 PDR FOIA KILLEFE84-367 PDR s

~

v 4.

The activity for the installation of the containment sprayfsystem (0-8355) has been deleted.

In lieu of a separate containment spray. system which is used at other' plants, a special mode of the RHR system will be used for containment spray.

5.

Since there will be no containment inerting system, activity 0-8595 has been deleted.

6.

All activities which previously shared a common node have been changed to show separate nodes for the. starts and finishes.

This change was made to alleviate the confusion associated with reporting the completion date of one activity-and the start date of a subsequent activity sharing a common node.

Also, by using separate nodes for an activity start and finish,.the construction logic can be more accurately presented.

Note that where nodes have been added, the common node number has been retained.as the activity finish node number and the activity start node has been unnumbered.

We believe that this revised network is an improvement to our previous submittals, which duplicate the NRC standard network for BWR construction.

As the construction plan evolves, how-ever, subsequent revisions may be necessary and network changes will be submitted along with other update information.

If there are any questions or comments, please contact us.

Very truly yours, c

Harold S.
