reports directlyhhdl5Uelf,$MrN to Dr. Ratib A. Karam who, as Director of the Neely Nuclear Research Center, has administrative responsibility for all Radiation Safety activities at Georgia Tech. Mr. Jerry Taylor is the Deputy Manager under Mr. Puckett. Four additional part-time technicians are currently working for the Office of Radiation Safety.

Dr. Bernd Kahn, Professor of Nuclear Engineering and Director, Environmental Resources Center, serves as Chairman of the Radiation Safety Committee. He is also the Radiation Safety Officer of Georgia Tech and, as such, reports directly to President Crecine when such action is necessary. This procedure by-passes all lower leve]s of administrative control, but should only be followed when not - n? administrative actions are not adequate for maintaining p_ per radiation safety conditions.

Every student, faculty, and staff member has a primary responsibility for the safety of all programs that they manage, including those using radiological materials. Each person must develop safe procedures, have those procedures reviewed and -

approved as required, and follow the approved procedures. The institutional staff are available to assist in the development of safe plans and procedures. They are also available to assist in emergencies. Please always assure that your programs are safe as a first priority and ask for assistance if you need help or have any doubt about correct procedures.

Please contact Mr. Puckett or Mr. Taylor directly as you need their help. Should you need additional assistance, you may contact Dr. Karam or me.

Your cooperation and assistance in helping Mr. Puckett l

assume his new responsibilities are greatly appreciated.
