1. Minutes of the Committee meeting of May 9, J991 were approved.
2. (i) R. Karam announced the expiration of terms of several members of the Committee, and handed out certificates of appreciation for their worthy service. The recipients were B. Kahn, H. Neumann and L. Petherick. The Comraittee decided that E.F.

Cobb will be the new chair, J. Mahaffey will continue as vice chair and P.V. Desai will continue as secretary.

(ii) R. Karam informed the Committee of the interest shown by EG&G, Idaho, to make the NNRC as a major Boron / Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) facility.

Additionally, EG&G has shown interest in supporting the research and activity at the NNRC of $500K to one million, provided that Georgia Tech continues to support the functioning of the center. It is anticipated that some changes will be made in the configuration of the facility. It will take anywhere from six months to one year to get NRC approval for such changes. The estimated cost of the changes is about $500,000.00. It is anticipated that eventually the f acility will be used to treat patients also.

(iii) R. Karam informed the Committee that the NRC had approved a modification to the Organization chart of the NNRC, removing the chair of the Nuclear Safeguards Committee from being the Radiation Safety Officer at Georgia Tech. At Georgia Tech, the Manager, Office of Radiation Safety (MORS) is equivalent to the Radiation Safety Officer.
