6.12 IN H 2SO4 -Dissolve 42 grams NaOH pellets in reagent water and dilute to 1 liter.

7.0 APPARATUS 7.1 BOD bottles, 300 ml 7.2 Incubator controlled at 20 C i 1 C 7.3 Pipets, Volumetric 7.4 Graduate, 1000 ml 7.5 Volumetric Flask 7.6 Erlenmeyer Flask 8.0 CALIBRATION AND/0R STANDARDIZATION 8.1 To check the dilution water, the seed material, and the technic of the analyst, prepare a standard solution containing 150 mg/l each of reagent grade glucose and glutamic acid which has been dried at 103*C for 1 hour1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br />. Pipet 5.0 ml of this solution into BOD bottle, fill with seeded dilution water, and incubate for 5 days at 20*C. The BOD with seed should be 207 i 8 mg/1. The standard has a theoretical BOD of 194 mg/1.

9.0 SAMPLING ,

9.1 Collect a sample from the sewage treatment plant effluent in BOD bottles. Four bottles are normally sufficient. Fill to overflowing and stopper to avoid entrapment of air.

10.0 PROCEDURE 10.1 Pretest Preparation 10.1.1 One BOD sample bottle of raw sewage should be collected 24-36 hours prior to use from the transfer pump prior to areation tank and stored at 20*C.

10.1.2 Collect sufficient quantity of reagent water directly from the still and aerate for ~ l hr. (typically 8 liters) 10.1.3 This water should be stored in a glass container plugged with cotton in the BOD incubator. . .
