SUBJECT:

DAILY HIGHLIGHT - R. E. GINNA Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E) has completed a television (TV) inspection of the "B" steam generator (S/G). Large sections of two tubes between the tubesheet and first support plate (Row 43 Column 60 and Row 43 Column 61) are missing and two other tubes (Row 43 Column 59 and Row 44 Column 57) may be partially missing.

Some other tubes in the hot leg side have OD scars, depressions or pieces missing. Three pieces of tubing are wedged between Row 45 and the wrapper in the vicinity of the two periphery tubes that showed ECT indications,at approximately 24 inches above the tube sheet.

In addition to the foreign objects previously reported, a piece of metal approximately 4"x3/4"xl/2" and what appears to be a piece of wire have been found in the "B" S/G hot leg periphery.

There have been no' damaged tubes found in the cold leg of the "B" S/G.

A complete TV inspection of the "A" steam generafor will be started this weekend.

RG&E has scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to describe the inspection results to date and note that the current outage will be a refuel-ing outage to be completed by May 1, 1982.

The licensee plans to have a meet-ing with the NRC staff late next week to provide a current status of their inspections and their plans for this refueling outage. A discussion as to the cause of the S/G tube (upture is not planned for this meeting.
