SUBJECT:

DAILY HIGHLIGHT R. E. GINNA.

Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E) has completed a television (TV) inspection of the periphery of the "B" steam generator (S/G) hot leg.

Inspection results indicate approximately 7-10 previously plugged tubes in the peripheral area near the ruptured tube are severly damaged. At least i

two tubes appear to have been completely severed 1-2 inches above t.se. tube l

sheet.

The remaining damaged tubes in this area appear to have been heavily I.

impacted at the same elevation, with penetrations and siignificant dents i

visible. Two pieces of foreign metal have be~eli removed from the steam generator.

The larger, approximately 6:1/2" x 4" x 7/16", was found in an area approx-imately 8 to 10 feet from the ruptured tube. 8 to 10 previously plugged tubes in this area were' scarred and dented to a lesser degree than those in the area of the rupture.

RG&E plans to perfom further TV inspections of the "B" S/G (cold leg periphery and hot leg tube lane) and to perfom the same I

inspection of the "A" S/G. Westinghouse specialists arrived on-site today to provide techhical assistance.

RG&E will continue "tYevaluate the res~ lts of the inspections.
