DAILY HIGHLIGHT

't. E. GINNA Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, February 3, 1982, the water level in the "B" steam generator was raised in order to determine which tube or tubes had failed January 25, 1982 at the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. Almost immediately, water was noted from one tube near the periphery on the hot leg side.

Eddy current tests were performed on the ruptured tube and on the four adjacent tubes. The rupture was detemined to be a " fish mouth" break about 5 'iiiches long starting 3 inches above the tube sheet. The ruptured tube is not one of the 21 tubes involved in the sleeving program that began in November 1980.

-Fiber optic inspection of the ruptured tube is planned to be performed l

this morning.

Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation has committed to eddy current test 100% of the hot leg tubes in the "B" steam generator.

Region I is monitoring the situation closely and keeping NRR staff informed through' periodic updates.
