BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION - UNIT NO. 2 DOCKET NO. 50-412 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO USNRC IE INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-412/82-01 This is a supplement to our May 7, 1982 response to Infraction 82-01-01, cited in Inspection Report No. 50-412/82-01 aad listed it. Appendix i A (Notice of Violation) attached to your letter to Mr. E. J. Woolever dated April 5, 1982. ,,

Following our discussion with your Messrs. L. Tripp and G. Walton ,

at the Beaver Valley site on May 26, 1982 regarding the review of our previous g response to Infraction 82-01-01, we concur that the concerns expressed apply to tha existence of a possible " Notch" condition. From our preliminary ex-amination of completed welds, we have concluded that the condition does exist to a limited extent and will be corrected by localized grinding.

In order to preclude the existence of such condition, our piping specification, 2BVS-920 and 2BVS-58, and our quality control inspection plans will be revised by July 15, 1982 to include the following itema relative to the control of abrupt changes in pipe welds:

A. There shall be no abrupt transitions in the juncture of pipe to fittings / components.

B. Transition angles greater than 150 shall be acceptable.

C. Transition angles less than 150 shall have a visually discernable radius at the root of the transition.
