. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

, Rep' ort No.: 50-302/82-031/03L-0 Facility: Crystal River Unit 3 Report Date: May 5, 1982 Occurrence Date: April 5, 1982 Identification of Occurrence:

Meteorological Monitoring System instrumentation inoperable contrary to Technical Specification 3.3.3.4.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Mode 1 - power operation (90%).

Description of Occurrence:

On April 5, 1982, during normal operation, it was discovered that the 175' wind direction channel was not functioning proper-ly. On April 13, 1982, it was discovered that the following Meteorological Monitoring System instrumentation was cut of calibration; 175' wind speed, wind direction and temperature,  ;

Control Room dew point, and barometric pressure, delta tempera-ture instrument, and the 33' temperature instrument. Maintenance was initiated and operability was restored on April 5, 1982, and April 19, 1982.

Designation of Apparent Cause:

The causes of these events are attributed to lost vane due to high winds and instruments out of calibration due to instrument drift.

Analysis of Occurrence:

Plume forecasting accuracy would be reduced in the event of an accident. There was no effect upon the health or safety of the general public.

Corrective Action:

The lost vane was replaced and the instruments were recalibrated in both events. The Meteorological Monitoring System is under engineering evaluation at the present time. No further corrective action is deemed necessary.

Failure Data:

This is the thirty-first and thirty-second event reparted under.

this Specification.
