Moisture through the valve l lTTT] l packing entered the valve operator and shorted out the motor (Limitorque. Part 479702A.l I i 121 1 Model #B102953) . The valve was repacked and the motor replaced. The valve was cycled I i, #3l l three times satisfactorily. No further action was deemed necessary. DRESDEN UNIT 3 (TLDRS-3)

DOCKET # 050-249 During normal operations, HPCI inboard steam supply isolation valve M03-2301-4 had no open position indication. In an attempt to cycle the valve from the Control Room, the breaker tripped and the exact valve position was unknown.

Outboard steam supply isolation valve M03-2301-5 was closed to assure primary .

containment integrity and the HPCI system was declared inoperable (T.S.3.5.C).

There was no effect to public health or safety. This event is of minimal safety significance because all the other safety systems were operable.

Previous occurrence: R.O. 50-237/80-17.

The cause of the event was due to a valve packing leak. Moisture through the valve packing eventually got into the valve operator and shorted out the motor (Limitorque, Part #79792A, Model #B102953). The valve was repacked and the motor replaced. The valve was cycled three times satisfactorily. No further action was deemed necessary.

When valve was cycled to verify operability, valve breaker tripped. Valve position is unknown. There is no closed or open position lights illuminated. HPCI was declared inoperable and the HPCI outboard steam supply isolation valve M03-2301-5 closed to assure primary containment integrity. ,
