DRESDEN UNIT 3 (ILDRS-3)

DOCKET # 050-249 On 11/9/82 at 0320, the D-2/3 Diesel Generator (D/G) trouble alarm annunciated in the control room. Inspection by the operator and foreman deter '_n:.e ciiat the main lubrication oil circulation pump had tripped. ,

Attempts to reset the lubrication oil circulation pump breaker failed. .

U-2/3 D/G was declared inoperable and required ECCS surveillances were immediately initiated on both D2 and D3. At 0445 hours0.00515 days
0.124 hours
7.357804e-4 weeks
1.693225e-4 months
, the D3 D/G was initially reported as to have tripped on Hi Crankcase Pressure and declared inoperable. Since both D/G's were inoperable, at 0515 hours0.00596 days
0.143 hours
8.515212e-4 weeks
1.959575e-4 months
, a GSEP Unusual Event was declared and U-3 commenced shutting down per Tech.

Spec. 3.5.F.1. The effect on public safety was minimal since the normal power supplies were available and the 2/3 D/G was out-of-service for less than ten hours.

At 1240 hours0.0144 days
0.344 hours
0.00205 weeks
4.7182e-4 months
, the main lubrication oil circulation pump motor on the D-2/3 D/G was replaced and the operability surveillance was success-fully completed. The GSEP Unusual Event and unit shutdown were termina-ted. Further investigation of D-3 D/G revealed the cause to be a bad cooling water pressure switch. The switch was replaced within the seven -

day requirement and the U-3 D/G was returned to service.
